DEPARTMENT OF VIROLOGY II

The Department of Virology II conducts basic research on viruses that cause gastroenteritis, enteroviruses including poliovirus, hepatitis viruses transmitted via the oral route and through blood, as well as viruses considered to possess tumorigenic potential. In addition, the department promotes the development and improvement of vaccines against these viral infections, as well as the development and advancement of diagnostic methods. Furthermore, through epidemiological studies, the department monitors domestic and international trends of viral infections and serves as a national and World Health Organization (WHO) reference laboratory.

LABORATORY OF GASTROENTERITIS VIRUSES

1 . Research on diagnostic methods and epidemiological analysis techniques for gastroenteritis viruses
2 . Studies on the prevention and treatment of gastroenteritis virus infections
3 . Molecular biological studies of gastroenteritis viruses 4 . Research on the testing and quality control of poliovirus vaccines 5 . Research on the testing of rotavirus vaccines and the development of novel rotavirus vaccines

LABORATORY OF ENTEROVIRUSES

1 . Laboratory diagnosis and molecular epidemiological analysis of polioviruses in support of global polio eradication
